Lamb from 2010

Lamb from 2010

The last lambs from 2010 have now left the site to be finished on better grazing. Whole and half  organic lamb boxes will shortly be available from Rother Valley Organics, the Farm Business Tenants on Butser. More information from the Park centre.

The ewe flock will shortly be moving off site prior to lambing. Their diet will be supplemented by organic barley fed in increasing amounts as the April lambing gets nearer. This event will take place at a nearby farm where the shepherd can keep a close eye on them.

The lambs soon after they are born will be ‘topped and tailed’, with rubber rings placed on their tails, and in a similar fashion to castrate the young rams. This is a painless process when done properly at an early age. Then groups of 25 ewes and their lambs will be put in to batching pens for the next 8 to 10 days to ensure that they are feeding correctly and that they have bonded. Only then will they be returned to Butser.

On Tuesday the 19th April the Park is running a ‘Woolly Wonders’ holiday activity from 1pm to 3pm. Pre-booking required.
