On the same weekend as the Butser Hill Challenge the Park saw another endurance event take place. Organised by Trail Break, a cycle orientated events company, the idea was to set off from Beachy Head at sun set and arrive at QE before sunrise. This is difficult enough during the daylight hours but after dark each of the 145 riders needed to be experienced cyclists and with high fitness levels to ensure that ‘elf and safety’ did not take its toll.

At 4pm a large articulated lorry arrived for all the bikes, and coaches for the competitors. The journey was made to the end of the South Downs and as the sun set the event began. Thanks to Exposure Lights Ltd who supplied the bike lights, and to the reflective way markers, each cyclist had a fair chance of making it to the end. For those not up to the full 80 miles there were shorter route options of 40 and 20 miles.
Breakfast and a few hours sleep were waiting and in the end the majority made it!
