Team leaders briefing

Last weekend staff from Oxfam and soldiers from the Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment (QGS) took over the Park’s theatre to brief team leaders for this years Trailwalker event. A total of 550 teams of 4 are taking part and the challenge is to walk 100km along the South Downs Way starting at the Country Park.

Competitors start on Saturday the 14th July and have the weekend to complete the route. The target time is 30 hours although the record is under ten! On the Friday night the Park turns in to a giant campsite with over 2,000 people under canvas waiting for the start.

Trailwalker was started more than 30 years ago by the QGS in Hong Kong as a training exercise for soldiers. In 2002 Trailwalker UK was opened up to the public in partnership with Oxfam and has since grown in to a major fundraising event for both Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust, raising an amazing £1,545,680 in 2011.
