Evening bbq

Last weekend saw an unusual event taking place at the Country Park. The 4 Wheel Drive Club arrived for their annual bbq and camp over using the Coney Acres bbq site.

The club was running a 4WD trial event in nearby Head Down, a 300 acre Forestry Commission plantation adjacent to the Country Park . The idea of such an event is to test the skills of the driver over several challenging sections within the woodland.

Racing is not permitted and in fact the club follows the Green Lane Association (GLASS) Code of Conduct at all times.

The club is based in the South East and ‘provides a fun and friendly place to exchange knowledge, advice and adventures’ for all 4WD owners. Events include treasure hunts, green lane days and geocaching.

For more information the club has  its own web-site at www.fourwheeldriveclub.com

The Park organises 12 event days in Head Down each year,  all of which are pre-booked and club run. They concentrate on the type of adventure sports which have a strong following and need a suitable venue. These include 4WD and motorbike trails,  field archery and husky training.

Being able to recommend club contacts and approved areas really helps the rangers in dealing with unauthorised or inappropriate use in the local area.
