During the Summer season many events take place using the rights of way network along the South Downs,  and often using the Park’s facilities.

For cycling, the South Downs Way which stretches 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne, is the most popular and there are several event management companies that work in this area.

This Saturday ‘Purple Trail Events’ were running the ‘South Downs Charity Chase’ which covered the whole 100 miles. 43 riders took part in appalling weather and survived to tell the tale. The company was set up in 2012 by a group of like-minded friends to organise and promote mountain bike events for the community and for charitable fundraising. More information at www.purpletrails.co.uk

Purple Trail Events recently had to cancel their June ‘Sundowner Ride’ because to the weather. This was due to be a nighttime dash from Steyning, along the Downs to QECP and back before dawn.

This weekend a second company had to cancel their mountain bike event due to the weather. ‘Trail break’ were forced to pull the Southern Trail Ride which  again uses the South Downs Way. Trail Break have been working with the Park for many years and provide food, ride support, return transport and accomodation for event participants.

When the Summer finally arrives riders will have the chance to take part in two more Trail Break events.

On the 1st/2nd September there will be the South Downs Way Ride which passes through QECP. And on the 22nd/23rd September there will be the South Downs Max, a nighttime ride which runs west for 80 miles along the Downs ending up at QECP for breakfast. More details at www.trailbreak.co.uk
