Event checkpoint

Event checkpoint

Last weekend on Saturday morning 70 plus cyclists passed through the Park on their way from Winchester to the other end of the South Downs Way.  A total distance of 100 miles and with a weekend to complete it. A second smaller group started a little later from the Park with a saving of 20 miles.

The Lemming Trail was first established in 1996 and has been going ever since. The event provides riders with a real challenge but where the accommodation, catering and safety support are all provided for them.

The event is organised a by a company called Trail Break which runs several others along the South Downs which also use the Park for checkpoints and accommodation.

The next one is called MaXx Exposure and takes place on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd September. The start point is Beachy Head at sunset and the cyclists then have to cover the 75 miles to QECP before sunrise the next day.

As always support is provided along the way, camping  for those who are quick enough to get some sleep at the end of the ride, and a good breakfast. Good lighting is provided and the route is well signed with reflective waymarkers. This event is not for novices.
