About two weeks ago on the 22nd September White Witches and Druids were celebrating the Autumnal Equinox with a short ceremony in the Park (see earlier blog). Strictly speaking Autumn now runs until the Winter Solstice on the 21st December.

However the Ecological Autumn starts whenever the leaves of our deciduous trees change colour and begin to fall. There are signs of such a change but it will take some colder weather before the full effect develops.

Traditionally the heating season starts on the 1st October but due to the indifferent weather this had to be brought forward by a week.

The Park centre is heated by a biomass boiler which uses as fuel chipped trees from QE Forest and  the surrounding woodland.

This Saturday about 80 tonnes of timber, our entire Winter supply, will be chipped using a large tractor mounted machine. Visitors can watch this operation taking place throughout the day but will need to check in at reception first for directions.

For more information about the biomass boiler and its fuel supply there will be a guided walk taking place on Saturday the 10th November at 1.30pm. Pre-booking via reception on 02392 595040.
